Letter from Original Owners of Page2Books

Below is a letter we received from the original owners of Page 2. It was wonderful to hear how Page 2 started!

March 2008

Dear Gayle and Karen,

We are the people who gave birth to the original Page 2 in November 1989. We started it when our last child went to college.

It was a great time filled with many new friends and involvement in Burien.

We opened after 20 of our dearest friends came on T-DAY weekend to set all of approx. 30,000 books on these hand made slant-back shelves built by a dear friend of my family. Everything was put on the shelf in alphabetical order.

We had a beautiful café cart in front by window next to door with tables so people could read and drink lattes that my wife made beautifully for the customers in the morning. I came in towards the afternoon. The coffee/lattes not as good made by me.

Page 2 became a place for people to gather, buy books, drink coffee, and have a sense of being with people who enjoyed being together. When we early retired about 6 years later...we sold the store reluctantly. Since then I/we drive by Page2 remembering the great times we had ...but unable to go in to visit. TOO difficult to do.

We are proud that in these difficult days of business, that Page2 was born and is still alive today. CONGRATULATIONS to you both.

I hope you continue to be successful and profitable and to enjoy the great little community you are a special part of.

Best regards,
Joyce and Joe
