Frannie James presents 'The Sylvan Hotel: A Seattle Story'

Join Page 2 Books and the Burien Public Library for an evening with local author Frannie James celebrating her new book The Sylvan Hotel: A Seattle Story, out now from Hinton Publishing. It's Seattle in the 90's and at The Sylvan Hotel polished mahogany walls keep secrets, rock stars slip by in low-lit spaces, and the switchboard crackles with drama. Everyone's trying to get somewhere else; including Joann who is 23 and works at reception to pay her bills while she figures out her career. Witty, nostalgic, and filled with the electric hum of youth, The Sylvan Hotel is a love letter to the people and places that shape us, whether we mean to stay or not.

This free author talk will be followed by a signing. Reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities is available by request. Email access@kcls.org at least seven days before the event.

Registration is not required, but helps us adequately prepare for attendance. If you'd like to RSVP, please do so at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/frannie-james-presents-the-sylvan-hotel-a-seattle-story-tickets-1974503209251?aff=oddtdtcreator

Wildflowers of the West with Molly Hashimoto

We are so excited to invite you to join Page 2 Books and Mountaineers Books at the Burien Library on Wednesday, October 1st from 6:00 - 7:30 PM for a wonderful event featuring local author and artist, Molly Hashimoto! Molly will be giving a presentation about her new book Wildflowers of the West: An Artist’s Guide. The author talk will be followed by a Q&A and book signing. Page 2 Books will be selling copies of Molly Hashimoto's books and watercolor kits.

About the Book:

Bestselling artist Molly Hashimoto brings her unique blend of vibrant illustration, engaging natural history, and intimate personal reflection to the Western landscape—this time exploring the ephemeral beauty of wildflowers. Organized by habitat, Wildflowers of the West showcases flora from wetlands, shorelines, and prairies to deserts, forests, and alpine meadows. Accompanying each piece with natural history and stories of her own outings to find flowers, Hashimoto captures individual species through different media, from quick sketches with pen and ink to detailed watercolors and carefully planned block prints. Find exquisite golden columbines emerging from talus slopes, vast meadows of sky-blue lupine, scarlet displays of ocotillo in the southwestern deserts, and sunny blooms of glacier lilies as they herald the approach of spring. Weaving in the history of wildflowers in art along with sidebars offering practical techniques for artists, Wildflowers of the West is an inspiration for anyone who would like to try their hand at capturing the delicate beauty of wildflowers they encounter or simply an armchair album for those who appreciate the natural beauty of the American West.

About Molly Hashimoto:

Molly Hashimoto teaches and leads plein air watercolor painting and printmaking workshops around the West, including at the North Cascades Institute, Yosemite Conservancy, Winslow Art Center, and Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. The author of four books including Trees of the West and Birds of the West, she lives in Seattle. Learn more at mollyhashimoto.com.
